Summer Art Camp: Side by Side

July 28-August 1, 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Who says summer camp is only for kids? In this brand-new camp designed for adults and children together, grown-ups and kids (ages 6–8) will work side by side for a week of creative exploration! In collaboration with BIG Kids magazine from Australia and led by metal smith Natalie Macellaio and fiber artist Lesli Robertson, we will engage with the DMA’s collection to better understand the process and concepts behind the work while exploring our own creative processes with a variety of mixed-media techniques.

Ages: 6-8 with an adult
Teachers: Natalie Macellaio, Lesli Robertson, and BIG Kids magazine (Lilly Blue and Jo Pollitt)

Summer Art Camp: New World Kids

August 4-8 and August 11-15, 9:00 a.m.-noon

Think you know your ABCs? Think again! In this camp, children will learn a new alphabet that stretches their creativity and offers a new way to see the world. Each day campers will explore an element of the Sensory Alphabet—line, color, texture, movement, sound, rhythm, space, light and shape—through open-ended projects, gallery activities and visits from people in the community who will share what it is like to think and work the way they do.

Ages: 5-6 Teacher: Leah Hanson
Please note this is a two-week camp.

Summer Art Camp: Brains, Brains, Braaaains!

August 4-8, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Explore the monstrous, the weird, and the macabre in art and science during this unique week-long camp. Work with special effects artists, scientists and actors to debunk zombie brain physiology, create a zombified version of characters from works of art with makeup and prosthetics, and make a zombie-survival scavenger hunt using the DMA’s collection, culminating in a large-scale photo shoot of you in costume!

Ages: 13-19 Teacher: J.C. Bigornia
