DMA Partners in Book Talk are invited for a special book-club-style discussion of Michael Kammen's Visual Shock and a related tour.
Visual Shock: A History of Art Controversies in American Culture examines the history of art controversies in America, dating back to the beginning of the 19th century with the construction of the Washington Monument. Kammen looks at the nature and persistence of major disputes generated by art and artists and shows what has changed and why Book Talk participants are encouraged to read the book before the discussion. Following the event, we will tour selected works in the DMA’s collection.
Space is limited and a reservation is required. Please reply to Maegan Hoffmann by Monday, September 1, via e-mail at mhoffmann@DMA.org or by calling 214-922-1208.
