"Chagall: Beyond Color" presents the artistâ019s beloved paintingsalongside his works in sculpture, ceramics, and collage toexplore his relationship with space and volume. The DallasMuseum of Art is the only U.S. venue, and the co-organizinginstitution, for this internationally touring exhibition featuringmore than 140 objects including paintings, costumes,sketches, ceramics, and sculptures. The centerpiece of theexhibition will be a display of costumes made by Marc Chagallin 1942 for the production of the ballet Aleko, choreographedby Léonide Massine and set to the music of Pyotr IlyichTchaikovskyâ019s Piano Trio in A Minor. The balletâ019s premièretook place in September 1942 in Mexico City, followed by theBallet Theatre of New York production, and the costumeshave not been seen in the U.S. since."Chagall: Beyond Color" is co-organized by La Piscine Museum,Roubaix, France, and the Dallas Museum of Art and will be onview exclusively in these two cities. A fully illustrated cataloguewill accompany the exhibition. The curator of the Dallas presentation is Olivier Meslay, Associate Director of CuratorialAffairs and The Barbara Thomas Lemmon Curator of European Art.
