Online Database: Texas Artists: Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper

Texas Artists: Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper is a joint digital collections project. The goal of the project is to provide access to a wide range of images of works by Texas artists. The Texas Artists digital collection currently comprises more than 1,000 digitized objects that are held by the three partner institutions. The online holdings may expand to include images from additional institutional collections in the future.

The partner institutions include Central University Libraries’ Bywaters Special Collections and Norwick Center for Digital Services (nCDS) at Southern Methodist University; the Dallas Museum of Art; and the Dallas Public Library’s Texas/Dallas History & Archives Division and Fine Books Division. From 2009 to 2011 this project was partially funded and supported by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission as part of the Train to Share program. The Train to Share program was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas.

Awards to Artists

The Dallas Museum of Art has awarded grants to more than two hundred artists since 1980. Recipients are selected by a special committee composed of Dallas Museum of Art staff and invited curators, artists, critics, and patrons. The Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund and the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund were established in 1980 to award funds in recognition of exceptional talent and potential in young visual artists who show a commitment to continuing their artistic endeavors. The Otis and Velma Davis Dozier Travel Grant was created in 1990 to honor the memory of Dallas artists Otis and Velma Dozier, who strongly believed in the enriching influence of travel on an artist’s work.
