Research Resources

The Mayer Library holds more than 56,000 titles, with approximately 1,200 volumes added each year. Art periodicals, Sotheby’s and Christie’s auction catalogues, and online research tools are also available. Files containing newspaper clippings on artists and art museums round out the library’s offerings. The library’s stacks are closed; only five titles may be requested per visit.

Appointments are recommended and can be made by e-mail or phone. For more information, please call the Reference Desk at 214-922-1277 or contact a librarian.

Search the Library Catalog

Artist files: Ephemera files containing clippings and small brochures.

Auction records: The Mayer Library has subscriptions to several online auction results databases and holds many print resources useful in researching auction records.

Auction catalogs: The library holds a variety of current and past auction catalogs from Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Butterfield’s, and many other auction houses. These are not listed in the library catalog.

Periodicals: The library subscribes to approximately 100 art-related periodicals. See periodicals list for complete holdings.

Copy machine: Copies are 25¢ per page; the student rate is 15¢ per page. Fragile or rare items may only be copied at the librarian’s discretion.
