Family Celebrations
Created for families to discover a wide variety of art, Family Celebrations include art-making activities in the studio, music, performances, interactive experiences with artists, family tours, sketching in the galleries, and more. Check back soon for information on the next Family Celebration!
Spring Break 2013
Enjoy a fun-filled week of art-making activities, family tours, story times, and gallery activities for families. Spring Break programs are held daily March 12–15.
Enjoy these activities anytime this week:
Art Cart
11:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Level 3
Something to do in the DMA galleries! Visit the Art Cart on Level 3 for creative writing, playing, and sketching inspired by works of art in the gallery.
Art Spot
11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Center for Creative Connections (C3)
Drop by the Art Spot in C3 and find Crackers, the four-legged family member in the sculpture Family Portrait 1963 by Martin Delabano. Make a sculpture of your pet or create an imaginary pet pal for Crackers at the Art Spot, or use the sketching materials and try your hand at drawing.
Puzzle Tables
11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Levels 2 and 4
Help finish a jigsaw puzzle of Claude-Joseph Vernet’s A Mountain Landscape with an Approaching Storm (Level 2) or Edward Hicks’ The Peaceable Kingdom (Level 4) near the paintings.
Seeing Red: A Bite-Sized Self-Guided Tour
11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Pick up a copy of the tour in C3.
Explore the galleries on Level 4 to see the many ways that artists have used the color red.
Story Time
Noon–12:30 p.m.
Meet at the C3 entrance.
Bring your imagination and join Education staff members to hear stories read aloud in the galleries.
Photo Shoot
1:00–3:00 p.m., Tech Lab, C3
Bring your imagination and create the scene of your dreams! Use your own camera to capture a whimsical portrait of you or your family.
Interactive Gallery Tour
2:00–2:30 p.m.
Meet in C3.
Join Education staff for a special hands-on tour of the Museum’s collection designed for the whole family. Explore works through movement, sketching, stories, and more!
ART You SmARTer Than Your Grown-Up?
3:00–4:00 p.m.
Meet in C3.
Join us in the galleries, where adults and kids will compete head-to-head in a battle of wits and creativity.
Family Film
4:00–4:30 p.m., C3 Theater
Watch Dropping in on Picasso and learn from Puffer the bird as he interviews Pablo Picasso about his artwork in this entertaining animated video. (20 minutes, for all ages)
