Join us for our annual Summer Block Party, when the Crow Collection of Asian Art and Nasher Sculpture Center are also open until midnight. We'll close down the streets in the Arts District for outdoor performances, films, and food trucks. Stay late for a concert by Girl in a Coma.

Late Night Creations 6:00–10:00 p.m., Art Studio, Center for Creative Connections (C3)
Learn about wayang kulit, an elaborately staged performance art from Central and East Java using intricately carved flat puppets that cast detailed shadows. Then use a variety of materials to create your own character, which you will bring to life through movement.

Sharing Stories with Writer Shay Youngblood6:30–7:30 p.m., C3
Shay Youngblood, the DMA Writer-in-Residence, will collect your stories about important women in your life. Find her in C3 in the gallery near Starry Crown, by John Biggers, and contribute your story.

From 1980 to 1986, the women of Toxic Shock worked collaboratively to produce a body of work that addressed the complex issues of politics, power, gender, and identity. Join members Frances Bagley, Julie Cohn, Debora Hunter, and Susan Magilow as they reflect on their work and the Dallas art scene.

Roy Fridge’s Injun (1971)9:30–11:30 p.m., Ross Avenue Plaza
In 1962, Claes Oldenburg staged a "happening" at the Dallas Museum for Contemporary Arts, recruiting local actress Flora Reeder and painter Jim Woodson. Texas artist Roy Fridge filmed the event, editing it into this black-and-white film of the daytime dress rehearsal. Film is 15 minutes and will be shown on a loop. This film is not rated.

Late Night After Hours Music Showcase featuring Girl in a Coma10:00 p.m., Atrium
San Antonio band Girl in a Coma has left a permanent tattoo on the hearts of music lovers with their piercing songs and nuclear performances. They have toured with Morrissey, Sia, The Pogues, and Amanda Palmer and contributed a song to Robert Rodriguez’s film Machete. The band has released four albums, including their latest, Exits & All the Rest.

Electric Freestyle Fantasy presents Sitting on a Blowhole 10:30–11:30 p.m., Sculpture Garden
EFF (Electric Freestyle Fantasy) make their return after a fifteen-year hiatus. Known for performing in unique situations, from playing inside a 50-foot inflatable money bag to playing inside a hollowed out fiberglass cow. For their return, expect to call the midwife as they are about to give birth to a giant cascarone containing a cacophony of ecstatic nuances aimed to titillate all five of your senses.
Jackelope (1975)10:30 p.m., Horchow Auditorium
A documentary by independent filmmaker Ken Harrison, Jackelope provides a look into the Texas art scene of the mid-1970s. Focusing on three young artists, James Surls, George Green, and Bob Wade, the film gives a rare glimpse into an often overlooked scene.This film is not rated. (59 mins.)
