Autism Awareness Family Celebrations
The Dallas Museum of Art’s Autism Awareness Family Celebrations provide a safe, comfortable way to introduce the Museum to families of children with autism and show them how they can have a successful visit to the Museum with their child on the Autism Spectrum. Pre-registered families can visit the Museum free of charge and enjoy the Museum’s Center for Creative Connections (C3) before the Museum opens to the public. Pre-register now for the upcoming Autism Awareness Family Celebration! Saturday, January 28, 9:00–11:00 a.m.
Explore color! Enjoy a morning filled with colorful experiences including art-making in the studio, a brightly hued interactive musical performance, and a new story board in the Young Learners Gallery. Meet and watch an artist demonstration with Grant Marnier, a talented 16-year-old artist from Houston who will share his eco-friendly artwork made from magazines, wallpaper, posters, food wrappers, puzzles, and other found objects.

I have become a voice for those you cannot hear and I lead by example for those you cannot understand." —Grant Manier Families will have the opportunity to explore the interactives in the Center for Creative Connections during this special private event and are also invited to stay when the Museum opens at 11:00 a.m. to enjoy additional family programming.

In celebration of visual awareness and Art Beyond Sight Awareness month, the Dallas Museum of Art will hosts a variety of programming every October.
Artist John Bramblitt, who was featured on CBS Evening News earlier this year leading a program at the DMA, is often featured in DMA programs throughout the year. John shares his process as a blind painter with visitors and leads workshops that include adaptive techniques for people with disabilities. Art Beyond Sight programming has also featured Denton jewelry designer Leslie Ligon. She is the owner of At First Sight Braille Jewelry, and she creates jewelry designs that promote Braille literacy within the blind and sighted communities. Made up of tiles that each contain a letter written in Braille, her designs won the 2010 People’s Design Award from The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.

Designed specifically for individuals with early stage dementia and their family members or caregivers, Meaningful Moments is a monthly program that includes a gallery discussion, an interactive component, and an art-making activity in the Art Studio. Participants will have the chance to relax and connect with art in the galleries, share stories, and gain inspiration.
The program is free, but reservations are required and spaces are limited. For more information or to register, call 214-922-1251 or e-mail Access@DallasMuseumofArt.org. Meaningful Moments is also available for groups from assisted-living facilities and community organizations. Please call to check date availability and to schedule a visit.
